Not What It Used To Be
I had to take some time off one afternoon a couple of months ago when it was still cold and snowy, so I drove around with a camera after my appointment. This is near Redwing, KS. A lot of train track has been torn up around the State, but this line is still used. Unfortunately, the Redwing General Store doesn't exist any more. It used to be a place where hunters going to Cheyenne Bottoms would stop. A sense of loss, urgency, and the rapid passing of time seems to be lurking beneath the surface......

Those Stairs Don't Look Right
This stairwell is on the outside of a building and looked good in the bright sun. I started experimenting with different digital manipulations of it, though, and settled on this version.

Kansas Sea Bottom Fence Post
There is a lot of limestone in Kansas, and, in certain parts of the State, limestone was used years ago to make fence posts. Fossils are seen easily in most of it, and, years ago, one of my brothers was with me while we walked around a river with limestone bluffs above it. We stumbled upon what turned out to be part of the rib cage of a Plesiosaur. This large piece of limestone holds up one half of a metal gate.

The shadows cast by the sun looked good on the side of this building. I wonder how the space behind the door was used and what might be up there now.

The Old And The New
While walking around I noticed the contrast between what had been done to the building on the left, and how the building to the right looked in comparison. The one on the left looks good, but it's not original. The one on the right isn't original, either, since the brick was painted years after the building was completed. At any rate, the setting sun brought out the texture in both.
Waiting For The Wheat
I drive by this location twice a day, too, and it's close to P. Lee's. Wheat is a huge crop locally and the elevators will be busy in late June or early July taking it in when harvest starts. I did a close-up shot of the upper portion of the one on the left but the wire running across the frame bothered me. Otherwise, I liked it.

This bumper sticker was noticed when I stopped behind the pickup at a stop light. I did one photo as he pulled away but it didnt capture what I wanted. Another attempt at another stop light failed, too, so I followed him until he stopped at a business. He probably thought I was goofy for wanting to photograph the back of his truck, but that's OK. It seems to capture the sentiment of some in the oilfield.
Satellite Dish Tower
I wasn't looking for this. I was just driving down a street and happened to look out my window.

Another granddaughter who was excited about being in the yard playing with a ball on the sidewalk.
The first NHRA Nationals were held here in 1955. I was working the water box and did this just before "test and tune" started on this day.
